chanumusic07 Our Religious School is combined with Beth El Congregation in Harrisonburg so that our students see a larger Jewish community.  Religious school is held for children beginning in Kindergarten through Bar/Bat Mitzvah and meets Sunday mornings at Beth El, from 9:30am-12:30pm.

The curriculum is focused on developing the skills to study Torah, engaging in the work of Avodah to find sacred connections to God, community, and self, and to perform acts of g’milut chasadim to make the world a better, holier place.  Our Alef (grades K-1) and Bet (grades 2-3) students use primers to learn the basics of the Hebrew alphabet and how to sound out words.  Our Hebrew curriculum for Gimmel (grades 4-5) and Dalet (grades 6-7) will continue to be the Behrman House Hineni series and the Gates of Prayer siddur which teaches Hebrew through prayer.  Many of our events welcome parents and siblings.

Dara Hall is our religious school principal.  She is also Teacher Education Admissions and Field Experiences Coordinator at the JMU Education Support Center.

A portion of tuition is subsidized by the congregation for temple members.  For more information, and to register a student, please contact the Principal of Religious School, Dara Hall at [email protected]
